Services

At Hazel Burns Hospice we try to provide services that are tailored to meet each individual’s needs in their particular situation.

  Home Visiting Volunteers:
Our professional staff and volunteers are trained in Palliative Care issues for a minimum of 30 hours. This allows them to effectively provide the much needed support to the terminally ill and their families, and for caregivers in the client’s home.

We can help by:
• Providing respite and support to caregivers
• Emotional support and companionship for the client
• Accompanying the client to appointments
• Running errands and taking him or her shopping
• Preparing light meals
• Grief & bereavement support
• Offering complimentary therapies (i.e. Massage, reflexology)
• Being attentive, empathetic listeners who can listen to and talk about death

  Case Management
Our experienced Case Managers visit in home to discuss and explore the needs of the client, family and/or the caregivers. They will continue to monitor and co-ordinate the necessary support services to make the daily living and caring of the family as easy and as dignified as possible.

  Referral and Advocacy Service:
The Hazel Burns Hospice staff can provide information on services and programs available in the community. We will also make the necessary referrals and advocate on behalf of clients to help get them services as quickly as possible.

  Telephone Support:
Information and emotional support is also available over the phone by Hazel Burns Hospice staff or trained volunteers.

  Individual Grief Counselling:
Hazel Burns Hospice has a grief counsellor available to provide support and counselling to those suffering from the overwhelming impact of loss and death. She will accompany you on your grief journey until you can develop the coping skills needed.

  Support Groups:
Bereavement Support Groups
Caregiver Support Group

Hazel Burns Hospice offers support where individuals can meet in a safe and caring environment. Here they will receive peer support and important information from specialists in issues they face. It also gives them an opportunity to develop coping skills and gain knowledge from the experience of their peers. The group is facilitated by a Hazel Burns Hospice staff member and trained volunteers.
